Speed Noodles & Speed Tteok
Food and drink
Speed noodles (sokdojeon guksu) are a North Korean instant-style dish you can make in about 30 seconds.
The noodles come with powdered seasoning already mixed in—just add water, shake, and eat! The word sokdojeon literally means a “speed-focused campaign,” a phrase used in North Korea to encourage doing things quickly and efficiently.
There’s also speed tteok (sokdojeon tteok), made from pre-cooked corn flour. Just add water, mix, and it’s ready to eat—no cooking needed. Because you can eat it straight away, it’s called “speed tteok.” The flour is made by steaming corn, so it can also be used for noodles or eaten with simple sides like bean sprouts. It’s sometimes called “peongpeongi tteok.”
